I love love love to dance. Music and dancing is my happy place. I don’t dance in the Spirit. I dance with the Spirit. I dance in the house, the supermarket. aisles in little shops, a parking lot, … Sometimes there’s music, sometimes not. When I hear music in my soul, I just dance. Please don’t think I’m some kind of nut case just dancing in the street, lost in another world, looking crazy. LOL! I’m well aware of what I’m doing and it’s ok with me. Invariably when I’m outside dancing, someone will comment something like, “I wish I were as happy as you.”
Now, let me be perfectly clear about this. I do not have that innate “sense of rhythm” they say “we” have. I’m good for a while, then something happens, and I just get out of rhythm. (Don’t laugh at me. Some of y’all are the same way.) I could never follow a dance partner unless he kept it 1,2,3 simple. I’m still trying to learn the Electric Slide so forget the line dances that came after. That doesn’t stop me from hitting the floor when the line dance music starts. I just make sure I’m in the back. But – at home! I am the hip hop dance queen.
Are there days that go by when I don’t dance? Of course. I have another happy place. I love to be around large breed dogs. I don’t own one now, but I find them, or they find me.
So, what is this about? It’s about one of the fundamental pillars of spirituality, joy, or your happy place. It’s that place inside where the indescribable peace and sense of wellbeing isn’t contingent upon right happenings. It’s that “zone” where the happenings in the external world don’t matter. You aren’t asking for anything. You aren’t complaining about anything. You aren’t fearful or burdened about anything. There’s just an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. It’s a place where thoughts will come, perhaps what you’ve been looking for. Or maybe just a sense of knowing, or a sense of being, or experiencing yourself apart from the demands and insanity of the world.
Your place of joy, your happy place has the energy that brings you right into the divine presence. It’s that space within, your internal world where you, and God, Source, Spirit, … are simply present, and all is well.
Seek ye first …
It’s the place to begin, not where you end up IF all goes well. It’s the place you seek before anything and despite everything.
The volume of the music I play in the house can be loud at times. I suppose that’s a vestige from my teens. But within that place, for me, is a silence, a peace and inexplicable joy.
Take on the challenge. Seek your joy. Find your “happy place.” Go there even when nothing is going your way. You think better when you’re in a good mental and spiritual place, as opposed to sad, worry and beg praying. You are more receptive to the directions and answers you seek. You receive with confidence instead of doubt.
When there seems to be miles to go before you get to where you want to be, and you know you’ve gone as far as your intellect can take you, dance.
