How many times have we heard or USED that phrase made popular in the 60’s by comedian, Flip Wilson, when he transformed himself into the popular character, the brash Geraldine Jones. Geraldine didn't create the phrase. It goes all the way back to the first recorded “pass the buck" in Genesis. You know the story. When God asked for accountability, Adam blamed Eve; Eve blamed the snake. Doesn’t anybody wonder about a snake talking? Hmmm, a devil possessed, talking snake; a thought for another blog.
This isn’t a treatise on the existence, nonexistence or theology of the devil. It’s about Free Will, Choice, Cause and Effect. It’s about the avoidance of responsibility, which is almost a reflex ingrained in our thinking. We don't like it when it's our fault. We don’t like to admit failure. We need a scapegoat, so the devil is an easy mark, the perfect patsy on which to cast the blame when we won't take the responsibility for our own actions.
There is but ONE power, and that is God. God is OMNIPOTENT, ALL POWERFUL, so any other “power” that may or may not exist cannot overpower that which is ALL POWERFUL; that which is within you. Think about it. How can a lesser power shut down the greater power, Spirit, and reel you in, and trounce all over you? It isn’t possible. Even IF there is a devil whispering in your ear, being tempted is not equal to being forced. All this crap about a demon of lust, the demon of alcohol, or any other demon is simply a rampage of, “The devil made me do it.” I don’t need a devil to make me do anything. I screw up just fine on my own. I don’t need a devil to blame. When I screw up, it's my own fault and I bear the responsibility.
Hmmm! Before you blame any lesser power than yourself for individual instances or the cumulative effect of where you are now, consider the common denominator. Could it be you? Just a thought. It certainly isn’t the devil. The only entity left is you.
This is the best news you’ve ever heard. You’re not a victim to/or of the wiles of some evil entity out to get you and then squaring off with God, who can’t be beat. Let’s stop complicating the beautiful simplicity of the spiritual life.
– God is All Powerful and the Powerful God resides within you and me.
– God is for us. Nothing can successfully score a victory against us UNLESS we choose to allow it.
– We have the Mind of Christ, the Divine Mind, Divine Intellect, and Free Will, therefore everything we need to make the choices that are for our highest good is within and accessible with our willingness to think.
God is Source, the Source of all power, Source Energy, First Cause. Nothing existed before the Source of all things. We are automatically plugged in (connected) to the Power Source, the Source that powers the Universe. Flip the switch to the “On” position and leave it there.
