I’ve been teaching an online series called “Why You Don’t Get What You Want, Even When You Pray for It.” As you may imagine, there are several reasons. I’m sharing just one of them with you in this thought.
To get what you want; you must know what you want. If you don’t know what you want, nothing can manifest because without identification or description, a want doesn’t exist, therefore, there’s nothing to create or bring forth. If you don’t know what you want, you don’t have an intelligent prayer. Some people want God to reveal to them what they want (or should want), then wait for God to bring it into manifestation. It doesn’t work that way. You must know what you want, then, and only then, can you expect to seek partnership with the Universe by doing your part in the having or manifestation of it.
So, you say you know what you want, but you still haven’t gotten it. One of the reasons you don’t get what you want is because you’re praying: “Dear Lord, send me a Unicorn.” You’re praying for something that does not exist in the human life space continuum. It existed only in the imagination of Disney. Others may have fallen in love with the image, nevertheless, it isn’t real.
Here’s a crazy example, but it perfectly makes the point. I’m an animal lover, specifically a dog lover; even more specifically, a Great Dane Lover. I can identify any breed on the street and pretty much able to see the breed mix in the “designer breed dogs.” I love them all, but my heart belongs to the graceful, statuesque, Great Dane. I’ve had them in the past and before I leave this life, I intend to have one or two more.
Here’s my prayer:
Dear Lord, please send me a Great Dane, 45” at the shoulder, born with cropped ears, no canine health problems at all, eats like a Chihuahua, will live 30 years. And above all, Lord, send one that doesn’t poop. Pee, ok, but no poop. If you can do that, Lord, then send two. Amen”
I may as well just say, Lord, send me a Unicorn. Aside from the fact that the Great Danes on average grow 30” - 34” at the shoulder, and even if all the other specs were possible – the dog is going to poop! This dog I’ve specified does not, nor will it ever exist. Okay, so while you’re having a good laugh at the sheer lunacy of my desire; it’s no crazier than some of the stuff for which you’re asking. (LOL)
Sometimes we cook up images and scenarios in our minds (a husband, wife, a situation, house, vacation, career) that have no bases in reality; rooted in a fantasy we’ve cultivated over time. Without fact checking, healthy imagination can veer out of control into the realm of the ridiculous; imagination on steroids.
Neville Goddard talks about the power of imagination, the power to bring the thing imagined into being. Don’t click off. It isn’t magic or hocus pocus. He talks about holding a vision (crafted within the realm of possibility), and you being a match to the thing imagined in order for you to attract it to you. The part easily missed is being equal to the thing imagined. Think about it; look around with realistic eyes, listen with receptive ears. Is the thing you’re asking for real or is it a Unicorn? The integrity of a prayer is more than just asking; more than the benefit you seek. It’s also about the benefit you bring to that which you seek, and all associated with it.
The next time you feel like your prayer isn’t being answered, or you don’t deserve that for which you so desire, ask yourself this question. Am I asking for a Unicorn?
