Pinochle is an interesting card game. It has rules and strategies just like any other game, but the thing that makes it stand out is “the trump card,” and the strategic use of it. A deck of cards has four suits, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades, 13 cards in each suit. At the start of the game, once a suit is identified as “trump,” that suit becomes the most powerful. Regardless of card values, any card in the suit identified as “trump” beats any card in any other suit. In other words, the lowest valued trump card beats the highest valued card in any other suit. The strategic use of “the trump card” is the most intriguing thing about the game. You must never play your trump card indiscriminately, just to win a hand.
In life we’ve been dealt a hand of cards. Don’t waste time trying to figure out what cards are in another person’s hand. Most people tend to show their cards or tell you what’s in their hand if you choose to listen well enough. Know well the cards you’ve been dealt, the cards in your hand, and concentrate on them. How many trump cards do you have? What are they? Understand the value of the trump card, how and when to play it. Consider these three points:
