Why is it every time I get there, the door closes?
Seems like every time I get in the game, the rules change. Why?
Have you ever asked yourself those questions? Seems so unfair, doesn’t it? You’re doing everything you know to do, “painting by the numbers” and for some unexplainable reason, the door is closed; and not only closed, it’s LOCKED.
What am I doing wrong? Things work out for others. Does God hate me? Am I being punished for something? I prayed and it didn’t work. Why? I pray and it never seems to work. Why? Am I jinxed? Maybe it’s just not meant for me to be successful, or to have a happy life. OMG! The questions are endless.
Isn’t it interesting how we know we are to trust God, but so often we blame God instead? Think about it. Just for fun, let’s answer those questions.
Let’s go back to basics to lay the groundwork for a better view of reality. Eternity. That’s forever, time without end. There’s eternity past and eternity future. Eternity is, and it unfolds before our eyes. As far back into forever past there was God. As far into the future until forever, God is. There is no time when God was not; nor will there ever be a time when God is not. You cannot separate God from eternity.
If that is true (and it is), then all that exists at any time is known to God in every present moment. God does not make life up as we go along. It’s already done. Everything is now, and present, in the intelligence of God.
When we come upon a closed door, it did not close just before you got there. God doesn’t run ahead of us and open or close doors based on what you do or any given set of circumstances. You (we) didn’t do anything to make it close. The door was closed from eternity past.
We have a destiny. Free Will, one of the most powerful and incredible gifts divinely given, allows us to choose our paths. Prayer and meditation are critically important in keeping us in the way of blessedness. If the path we chose leads to a door that is closed, it was closed from the beginning. It was not closed when Spirit saw you coming.
Don’t stand in front of the locked door and pout “why?,” jiggle, or try to force the handle to try to open the door. The closed door is simply saying, this is not the best for you. God wants to give you God’s best, not second best or just “good enough.” God wants to give you the best of what you asked for, even better than what you imagined. When you encounter a closed door, God isn’t punishing you. Just back up a minute. “Be still and know that I am God.” Check in with God again. No harm done. There is another path, a better way.
This, beloved, is why prayer and meditation cannot be separated if success on any level is to happen. Most of us have the prayer piece down okay, but we miss the boat on the meditation piece.
Prayer is when you talk to God. Meditation is when God talks to you. The meditation discipline opens the spiritual mind and spiritual ear to directions that lead to open doors.
I know. It sounds much too simple. We like to complicate things sometimes.
