Many years ago, we moved to a small unfamiliar town. I spent most of my time in the virtual “lost-n-found.” Me, lost trying to find my way anywhere. (LOL). I allowed myself to become completely dependent upon landmarks. That worked well during daylight hours. When you’re night blind and landmark dependent, you need to get home before dusk. What about GPS, you ask? GPS is a wonderful tool, but street signs can be difficult to read at night and you need to make sure the battery has sufficient charge. .
During Christmas time, there was a huge property on a corner not far from from my home that had elaborate Christmas scenes along the front and side of the property. It was an incredibly beautiful showplace attracting lots of viewers and traffic throughout the season. You guessed it. It was a landmark for me whenever I had to be out after dark. When the GPS got me to the corner and the huge nativity scene was on my right, I knew I was close to home.
One night I had to be out late. My phone died, so went the GPS. I made a few wrong turns but couldn’t get back on track. That coupled with being out late, no cell phone sevice, and feeling lost, my frustration level was pretty high. I decided to pull over, calm down, and just look at this house on whatever street this is with the nice Christmas scene. I got out and walked around the perimeter of the large property, no rush. When I turned the corner, there was the huge nativity scene.
Shaking my head, I got back into my car. Most of the time that I’d felt frustrated and lost, I was actually close to home and didn’t realize it. I’d never been on the side of this property before, never saw the grand light show on the side of the house. The side looked like a completely different property. From the side I could not see the scene in the front with which I was familiar.
Where you stand determines what you see. Vantage point matters. My husband says he can look at me at times and see me walking around a subject. “She’s gonna walk around that thing for a while.”
When looking at a scene, if you step 10 ft. to the right or to the left, it changes what you see. Likewise, when you adjust the height or camera angle of your phone when you take a selfie, you look different. In either case, some angles are more appealing than others.
Can you not give a subject or issue the same thought energy? Sometimes it takes courage to give your own thoughts a 2nd thought. Let’s face it; the only thing threatened by being receptive is the ego. You know, the ego, that thing that prevents blessings and personal growth.
Before you look at an idea, ideology, belief system one way and insist that is “the way,” or the “only way,” check it out from another vantage point. It might look a little different. You might even like it a little better. Different vantage points give you more to see. Don’t like it? No Harm / No Foul. You can move the X to whatever position that works best, but don’t deny yourself the joy of expansion and newness. Sometimes when you move the X to another spot, life begins again.
